WiderCircle, a company that partners with insurance companies to improve members health by encouraging them to make deep and meaningful connections through group events, had members that needed more agency with WiderCircle in order to attend events that peak their interest and allow them to form these connections. Facilitators of these events were also getting burnt out due to the workload present.
When working with Alex, our sponsor for this semesters project, he had given us the freedom to do whatever we wanted to with WiderCircle. Because it was exploratory, we began to conduct a wide range of secondary and primary research.
Through interviews, we had found that there are 500 members per facilitator in WiderCircle, causing facilitators to become overworked and burned out. After analyzing our journey and service maps, we had came up with the idea systematic change, encouraging members who have passions to become facilitators for WiderCircle. For example, a member that had previously been an artist would lead an art event. This would then ideally lead to an increase in facilitators and a decrease in burn out.
We had also recognized that members did not have the option to see what events were available. Members were assigned to events by WiderCircle employees. Through discussion, sketching, and prototyping, we had created a screen to add to the website, where members gain agency by viewing all planned events, and RSVPing to what interests them the most, instead of being assigned one. To design for the users needs, we created here is a filter available for users to find events that interest them most. The screen also informs users of who is going, where the event is, what time, and what amenities will be available.

I researched misconceptions about our user group which helped us better understand their needs, helped me have more empathy while designing, and also have more effective communication with our users.
This was my first UX experience studio, so I was finally introduced to Figma and how to create prototypes!
This project introduced me to service design. I experienced finding potential issues by using design methods such as a journey maps and service maps.
